Starting in June 2023!

Did you know that Allsorts Youth Project now provides LGBT+ safe spaces for children, young people and families in 7 different cities across Sussex? That’s right, 7! And if you were to walk to each of those locations from the Young People’s Centre in Brighton and back again, it would be a 148 mile round trip!

With that in mind, if you like walking, jogging, running or cycling and would like to help us raise awareness of our services in each of these areas, whilst raising some much needed funds for a good cause, we’ve got a challenge just for you!

The Allsorts 148 Mile Challenge (Across Sussex with Pride) invites you to walk, jog or cycle… you guessed it, 148 miles over the course of three months, whilst raising money towards our expanding LGBT+ youth and family support services.

    • How often do I have to walk/run/cycle? If you have time for a daily 20-30 minute walk or run, 1.6 miles per day would get you there in 3 months. For a seasoned cyclist, four weekly 37 mile rides would take you to one month! In short, we’re setting you a 148 mile in 3 month target, but how you get there is totally up to you! If you'd like to mix it up and walk some days, cycle another and finish the week with a 3 mile skate - that's also great!
    • Do I have to follow a certain track? Nope! You can walk, run or cycle anywhere, anytime or even put your miles in on an exercise bike. If you find yourself anywhere particularly picturesque though, send us a picture and let us know how you’re doing!

    • What should my fundraising target be? In keeping with the theme, we’re asking you for a minimum target of £148, but would recommend raising the bar higher to anywhere between £300-1000. 148 miles is no small feat and in our experience, people are generous when their friends are raising money for a great cause!

    • Can I form a team? Yes! If you would like to put a team together, you can do that through this event page by simply clicking "Team" at the top of the page. If you’re fundraising as a team, just multiply your individual targets by the number of people on your team (for example, a team of 5 raising £500 each would have a total target of £2500)

    • Do I have to complete the challenge in 3 months? We encourage you to complete the challenge during Pride Season (June-August). That being said, whether you’re short on time or don’t normally exercise regularly, for lots of reasons you might not feel able to complete the challenge in 3 months, and that’s of course okay! If you think you’ll take longer, just include that information on your fundraising page.

    • How do I sign up? Just click ‘Fundraise’ (or "Team" if there are a few of you taking part together) at the top of this page, fill in the form and you’re all set!

More about Allsorts?

Established in 1999, Allsorts Youth Project is a Sussex-based charity that listens to, connects and supports children & young people (under 26) who are LGBT+ or exploring their sexual orientation and/or gender identity, and their families.

With a view to seeing a world in which all LGBT+ children & young people are free to be themselves, we challenge exclusion, prejudice and discrimination in all areas of their lives, with a three-pronged approach.

  1. LGBT+ Youth Services including youth groups and one-to-one support
  2. Family Support for parents/carers and family members of LGBT+ children & young people
  3. Training & Education to the wider community, so that all spaces can be safer and more inclusive for LGBT+ people

“Allsorts in the last 6 months has drastically helped me. With the staff's support, I was able to come out to some family members. Even without the best outcome, the staff's continued support before and after made all the difference. Allsorts keeps me connected to the world and allows me to socialise with other young people.”

Where are Allsorts’ Youth Groups? Our LGBT+ youth groups are currently available in Brighton, Worthing, Chichester, Horsham, Crawley, Eastbourne and Hastings (and online!)
